Our first launch of Issue 01 took place during the 2019 Archifringe. As well as selling and celebrating our issue, we ran a casual exhibition alongside the opening that represented one of our contributor’s work: Francisco Fernández Campos. The photos exhibited displayed his interpretation of ‘displacement’ in Mexico City through a 35mm Leica Camera. Alongside this, the night hosted a brief introduction to the concept of -ism by editor-in-chief Aoife B. Nolan, before writer, editor, critic and recently retired Director of Cultural Studies Jonathan Charley spoke.
The night recieved 30-40 visitors throughout and wouldn’t have been possible without the Arts & Culture Grant provided by Strathclyde Student’s Union. The gratitude extends out to the Architecture Fringe Festival that allowed -ism to be a part of their programme, and to the New Glasgow Society for allowing the use of their space for the launch. To anyone who attended the night, has taken interest in -ism, or has bought a copy - thankyou. All profits made go into the future and maintenance of -ism magazine.
35mm photos were taken by Dafni Michalaki.
